The Society for New Music presents the 2022 Vision of Sound, a concert of new music and dance as part of the organization’s 50th Season: Discovering Gold. The program showcases collaborations between Upstate New York composers and choreographers, and their artistic visions are brought to the stage by acclaimed musicians and movement artists. Vision of Sound, now in its 16th season, is a feast for the senses.
This season, new works have been inspired by such topics as the cosmos, truthfulness, claustrophobia, and western NY winters. Featured are PREMIERES by Christopher Cresswell, Loren Loiacono, and Mark Watters, with additional new works by Diane Jones, Evis Sammoutis, and Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez. The composers serve on the faculties of Onondaga Community College, Syracuse University, Eastman School of Music & Ithaca College.
Performing as SOCIETY PLAYERS are Rob Auler, piano; John Friedrichs, clarinet; David Fulmer, violin; and Zachary Sweet, cello.
Choreographers include Pralaya Cuomo, Dominique Dawkins, Caitlin Mahon, Katherine Marino, Solange Rodrigues, and Aldo Santiago, who represent a small portion of the gifted professionals heading regional dance companies, faculty and free-lance movement artists from Brockport to Syracuse and beyond, e.g. Roc City Circus and Nazareth College in Rochester, Dominique’s Dance Creations & Syracuse City Ballet in Syracuse.
The program was curated by Alaina Olivieri, Mark Olivieri, Neva Pilgrim, and Octavio Vazquez.
